Partners Steve Elkington and Scott McCarron sailed through Monday’s first round and are currently in the lead at the 2011 Umpqua Bank Challenge. McCarron, co-champion of the 2002 Challenge, holed out from the bunker on 18 for eagle, pushing them to 11-under-par, two strokes ahead of second-place team John Cook and Jay Haas.
McCarron celebrates after holing his bunker shot on 18.
The fan-favorite team of Peter Jacobsen and Arnold Palmer had an up and down round, but finished the day under par after a joint effort brought them a birdie on 18.
